You are paid these amounts minus the co-op’s 15% commission, which goes to sustain and grow YOUR business.

Additional Driver Pay Premiums on Co-op Ride Trips

Long Pickup Fee: if the time it takes you to reach the passenger is longer than 8 minutes, you are paid the full passenger fare (the co-op does not take a commission) for that time and distance.

Green Transition Surcharge: For each trip you take from Co-op Ride, the rider pays a $1 Green Transition Surcharge. This accrues for you in an account with the co-op, and you will be able to tap into this account to buy an electric vehicle. The co-op is currently fighting to make this surcharge industry-wide, so all drivers can get help buying EVs and WAVs.

New Jersey Surcharge: if your trip goes into New Jersey, you are paid an extra $20. The co-op commission is taken on this surcharge.

Taxes and Surcharges

There are several taxes and surcharges that all Black Car bases are required to collect from the passenger. These amounts do not come out of driver pay, they are paid by the passenger on top of the fare. Here is a summary:

Sales Tax: charged on all non tax-exempt trips that are within New York State, rate is based on the local tax rate of the pickup location. In the City of New York, the rate is 8.875%.

Black Car Fund: this is charged on all trips by black car bases. It is currently a 2.75% surcharge that funds workers compensation and other benefits for drivers. You can learn more about the Black Car Fund here.

Port Authority Surcharge: required by the Port Authority for all trips that pick up or drop off at LGA, JFK, or EWR.

Congestion Surcharge: this is charged by the MTA on all trips that pass through Manhattan south of 96th St. It is $2.75 for FHV trips with one customer, and $.75 for shared trips.
