Cooperatives
Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative
BCDI is a community-led planning and economic development organization. Grounded in a vision of black liberation, a movement building approach to economic transformation, and a community enterprise network model, they create people-centered planning and development processes and train leaders from across sectors to advance a more democratic Bronx economy. TDC has worked to provide reliable and ethical transportation so their team can focus on fostering an environment for a more equitable Bronx.
Amalgamated Housing Cooperative
Amalgamated Housing Cooperative is the oldest limited equity housing cooperative in the U.S, providing over 1500 families with affordable housing and a tight-knit community. The Drivers Cooperative is proud to have worked directly with the Amalgamated cooperators to get them to and from polling sites during New York City Council primaries in June, 2021.
Civic Engagement
Access-A-Ride
Access-A-Ride is a vital service that provides transportation services to thousands of NYC residents with disabilities and health conditions that would otherwise prevent them from using public transportation. Currently, the AAR program is underfunded leaving the most vulnerable among us underserved. At the co-op, we are engaging stakeholders in the disability advocacy space and in City Hall to come to a comprehensive solution for this much-needed service.
NYC Board of Elections
The NYC Board of Elections, consisting of a group of ten City Council appointed commissioners and a bipartisan staff, oversees all election-related activities for the city of New York. The NYC Board of Elections came to the Co-op with a pressing challenge: they needed a reliable partner to get their employees home after a long day of work or to the office in the early hours of the morning. We knew our worker-owned business model would result in an inherent sense of accountability and true ‘ownership’. We have proven that time and again for the Board and are proud to continue working with them to solve their unique transportation needs.
Knowink
KNOWiNK, founded by a group of former election officials and authorities, provides a range of products for voters and voting officials to modernize the voting process. The Co-op has been working with Knowink and their team of ballot technicians. We have provided hourly dedicated car service so their techs can ensure election equipment runs smoothly and efficiently.
Restaurants and Cafés
Love, Nelly
Love, Nelly is the sister bakery to Butter & Scotch and was opened in July 2020. They have a worker payment structure that we admire here at the co-op as they are dedicated to paying employees a living wage. We are proud to be helping Stephanie and her team at Love, Nelly by delivering their delicious cakes and empanadas.
Just Salad
Just Salad is a fast casual chain based in NYC. In 2021, they began work with the City of New York to supply meal kits to shelters for the unhoused and other non profits throughout the city. They faced one key challenge in their operation: the delivery vendor they were working with charged sky high prices and were unreliable. The worker-owners at TDC stepped up to this challenge by charging a fair, transparent price and coming with the types of vehicles and expertise to get the job done.
Healthcare
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is the world's oldest and largest private cancer center. Based here in NYC, they have almost 150 years of experience in cancer research, education, and patient care. TDC is working with the MSK Immigrant Health & Cancer Disparities Center to help their team get to and from health fairs across the city.
YAI
YAI, previously known as Young Adult Institute, is an organization serving people with Intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in the United States. YAI launched as a pilot program at a small school in Brooklyn, New York, in February 1957. Operating throughout downstate New York, northern New Jersey, and California, YAI now offers more than 300 programs for people of all ages. Today, YAI has a team of over 4,000 employees and supports over 20,000 people in the I/DD community. YAI has teamed up with TDC to get their community to and from doctor’s appointments throughout the city.
Special Events
GoVote
Every year, voter turnout suffers nationwide in large part due to access to transportation - NYC is no exception. We worked with candidates across the five boroughs in the primaries of the 2021 City Council elections to bring their voters to the polls at no cost to the passenger. These wonderful candidates made sure that transportation was not a barrier to entry for the constituents in each of their districts.
The Kitchen
The Kitchen is one of New York City’s oldest nonprofit spaces, showing innovative work by emerging and established artists across disciplines. Since its inception, The Kitchen has been a powerful force in shaping the cultural landscape of this country, and has helped launch the careers of many artists who have gone on to worldwide prominence. The Drivers Cooperative has been proud to provide wheelchair-accessible transportation to The Kitchen during their performances in Brooklyn.
