FAQs
Can I take trips?
We are waiting on our base approval from the Taxi and Limousine Commission, NYC’s regulatory authority over the transportation space. You can download the app today, and we will text and email you when you can take trips! [as of 5/26/2021]
What is a cooperative?
A cooperative is a “jointly-owned and democratically controlled” entity. Just like an organization can be a non-profit or a corporation - an organization can be a cooperative. In our case, our members vote for the Board of Directors and receive a share of profits. Examples of cooperatives include REI, the Park Slope Food Co-op, Land O’ Lakes, and credit unions. Shared ownership creates a more inclusive economy. The values of a cooperative are:
Democracy
Self-help
Self-responsibility
Equity
Equality
Solidarity
Why are you a cooperative?
Given that drivers drive the gig economy, we believe we deserve to own and profit from the platforms. Also, revenues from transportation services can fund organizing work that represents the unfiltered voice of drivers as we fight for higher wages, the right to organize, and worker protections.
What do you do to ensure riders are safe?
To be a registered driver with the Taxi and Limousine Commission, drivers undergo a background check. If a driver is arrested, he or she will be removed from the database of active drivers. We confirm twice per day that all of our drivers are in the active database and collect identification documents on all of our drivers.
Is it more expensive than Uber and Lyft?
We’re actually cheaper than Uber and Lyft! We’re cutting out the middleman to give a better deal to both drivers and riders.
Will the cooperative be available in other cities?
We’re excited to expand! We think ride-hailing globally should be driver owned and controlled. But first things first - let’s build in New York City before taking on other cities.
